2. Advocating for improvements to local cycling routes

a. PQ Links Working Group

The OCC serves on the PQ Links Working Group which is composed of reps from the RDN, The City of Parksville and the Town of Qualicum Beach. One goal for 2012 is to conclude on a plan for proper signage on the PQ Links Trail.

b. Survey of local cyclists

In the Fall of 2011 we conducted a survey of how cyclists feel about cycling locally. Thanks to Cam Davis for coordinating the survey and compiling and publishing the results

 c. Local Cycling Routes - Concerns and Solutions

At our October 2011 meeting we also conducted a hands-on session on identifying specific areas/routes of concern for local cyclists and we also looked at solutions for these areas of concern.The following file is a summary of concerns and solutions for 5 main areas of the Oceanside area: 1. Qualicum Beach to Deep Bay, 2. Qualicum Beach, 3. Between Qualicum Beach and Parksville, 4. Parksville and 5. Outlying Rural areas

3. Mapping local cycling routes

a. Oceanside Tourism Association Maps

The 2012 version of the Tear-off maps provided by the Oceanside Tourism Assoc. at both the Parksville and Qualicum Beach Visitors' Centres will include Popular Cycling Routes.

 

 3. Bike Valet

We hope to be able to provide safe,secure bike lockup areas at local major community events


4. Cycling Education 

We will shortly be offering safe cycling courses provided by Can-Bike-certified instructors. Can Bike is part of the Canadian Cycling Association.

5.  Publicity
